Pop Culture!

So much has been going on recently with awards, the Grammy's and the Met Gala coming up.

Lets dive in and take a look at what has been going on

What has Burberry been up to?

UK Rappers Skepta and Chip were spotted at the AW25 Burberry show in London.

Burberry has unfortunately seen a decline in sales due to loss of brand identity.

What is this years theme for the Met Gala?

Met Gala 2025, to be held on the 5th May 2025, is themed 'Superfine: Tailoring black style'.

This theme is incredibly exciting as hopes for brands such as Chanel and Dior increase as we want to see their archives.

Who wore who at the Grammys?

The Grammy's as we all know, was a very eventful night, but moving on from that, which designers were represented?

To give a short list we had...

Olivia Rodrigo in vintage Versace

Miley Cyrus in Yves Saint Laurent

Cynthia Erivo in Louis Vuitton

Jaden Smith in Louis Vuitton

and to finish this list, crowned Best New Artist, Chappell Roan wearing Jean-Paul Gaultier

Interviews

Estevan Oriol - Photographer

Estevan Oriol is a celebrity photographer capturing life in LA from cars and gangsters to musicians and models.I cam across him after watching the documentary "LA Originals" and was in awe from seeing his work.

He manages to capture 'real life', and his photos make you feel as if you are in the moment which is an incredible skill.

What if your favourite type of photography and who was someone you captured that star-stuck you?

"My favourite type of photographs to shoot is portraits of people and documentary style. I'd say Dennis Hooper, R.I.P, Rob De Niro and Al Pacino were my all time most star struck I got but no one knew I played that s**t off.

I adore the photos you've taken of these incredible people, but what type of photography are you the biggest fan of?

"Documentary style. I wanted to be a war photographer when I started but my family said no way."

How have you found the industry has changed since you started?

"1000% there was no internet or computers, everything was done by hand and foot. Every photo was done by hand, from putting the film in the camera to holding the final print. Every job you got was by going somewhere and meeting them face to face. No social media, magazines and galleries was how people saw your work."

What has been the biggest change?

"Going from film to digital is what changed. It cut making a living as a photographer way back ,most of the budgets got cut way back, everyone takes photos of everything so it's not so special, it's oversaturated and watered down. With so many people doing it now you have to be really good to stick out and shine."

Any changes you like or dislike?

"I wish magazines would come back. Most people don't care about taking a good or a great photo, I have hard them take a half a** picture and say 'it's okay I will fix it in photoshop' then it almost becomes graphic art and not a photo by the time they get done. 1 minute to take a good photo or 1 hour or more to fix it on the computer"

What has been most rewarwding about your career?

"Being able to make a life out of something I love to do and being able to travel the world doing it. I also like to see the emotions that come from people when they see my photos."

Do you think people appreciate photography as much as they did?

"Yeah, there are millions of photographers and photographs than ever before in history and now with AI you don't even need a camera to take a photo. Just tell your phone or computer what you want"

Kerry-Ann Wells - Makeup Artist

When I modelled for Top Model UK 2024, Kerry did my makeup for me which is how I met her.

Kerry has also done the makeup for London Fashion Week, Bridal, Edith Magazine, Sweet Magazine, and much more.

What made you want to start doing makeup professionally?

"I was inspired by my wedding artist, watching her create beautiful makeup looks on my bridesmaids gave me the makeup bug"

What has been the most rewarding experience in your career?

"My most rewarding experience was being lucky enough to work for bridal designer Gill Harvey for her bridal brand Eliza Jane Howell and mother of the brand Gill Harvey. The collections were stunning and working with Gill was amazing. She is so talented and kind"

What awards have you won? How was that opportunity?

"Finalist in makeup artist of the year 2024, placing a highly commended bronze. Finalist in Bridal makeup artist if the year 2024, placing 2nd. Finalist Creative makeup artist if the year 2024, placing a highly commended silver. These awards have given me the opportunity to challenge myself, you go up against so many talented artists and to place against them is an incredible feeling, these awards are judged by leading makeup artists who are top of their area and to be recognised by them means a lot."

What was it like doing models makeup for Fashion Week?

"Creating makeup for the models for London Fashion Week was so much fun, loved getting to meet all the models and being able to create beautiful looks on them. Watching your work being showcased on the models gives me such a buzz, the whole hair and makeup team for Top Model was such an incredible group of ladies and a supportive environment. I can't wait for this years show."

Fashion Week

One thing that is always something for fashion lovers to look forward to is, Fashion Week.

Over February we saw some absolutely breathtaking moments.

A personal favourite was Ukraine's choice of models and Robert Wun's incredible collection with loads of artistic inspiration.

Ukraine Fashion Week

Having not hosted fashion week since 2022, Ukraine came out with collections titled "Hope for the Future".

Designers took this as an opportunity to show "Resilience and Restraint" and the work that was produced is both inspiring and chilling.

Designers chose to use War Veterans, specifically those with prosthetic limbs to "make a striking statement that Ukraine was adapting as a society".

Robert Wun

Robert Wun showcased his latest FW24/25 Haute Couture collection during Paris Fashion Week 2025.

As always, his collection didn't fail to take my breathe away.

This collection being inspired by "natural forms", Wun has once again pushed the boundaries of creativity in fashion.
